Leave No Trace & Tread Lightly
We are dedicated to preserving the rugged beauty of the Mid-Atlantic. Our expeditions are designed for the intentional traveler who values both exclusivity and the permanence of our natural landscapes. We strictly adhere to Leave No Trace principles and Tread Lightly standards to ensure that our trails remain as pristine as the day they were first scouted.
Leave No Trace
1. Plan Ahead and Prepare
Research regional regulations and weather patterns. Our curated routes are scouted for safety and seasonal accessibility to minimize risk and impact.
2. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Stick to established trails and campsites. Our rigs are built for rugged terrain, but we respect the boundaries of the wild to protect delicate ecosystems.
3. Dispose of Waste Properly
Pack it in, pack it out. Every expedition rig includes waste management equipment to ensure you leave no environmental impact behind.
4. Leave What You Find
Preserve the character of the Mid-Atlantic. Observe cultural artifacts and natural structures without disturbance. Leave the journey intact for others.
5. Minimize Campfire Impacts
Use a camp stove when possible. If fires are permitted, keep them small, use established fire rings, and fully extinguish them before leaving.
6. Respect Wildlife
Observe wildlife from a distance. Secure all provisions in the SmartCap system to remain a guest in their habitat without cause for habituation.
7. Be Considerate of Other Visitors
Protect the quality of experience for everyone. Yield to fellow explorers and maintain the quietude that defines the wilderness experience.
Tread Lightly Principles
The Mid-Atlantic wilderness is as fragile as it is beautiful. Our commitment to preservation is non-negotiable, ensuring these trails remain pristine for the travelers who follow. Every Shore to Summit journey is a partnership in stewardship.
TRAVEL RESPONSIBLY
Stay on designated roads, trails, and waterways. Go over—not around—obstacles, and avoid wet or muddy routes when possible.
RESPECT THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS
Share the trail and water. Respect private property and other users so everyone can enjoy their time outside.
EDUCATE YOURSELF
Know the rules, study maps, and understand how to operate your vehicle and gear safely before heading out.
AVOID SENSITIVE AREAS
Stay off meadows, wetlands, and shorelines. Stick to designated routes to protect soil, water, and wildlife habitats.
DO YOUR PART
Pack out trash, minimize your impact, prevent the spread of invasive species, and leave every place better than you found it.
