A few solid places to start if you’re planning a trip.
SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK
Skyline Drive gets the attention, but the real value is everything around it – forest roads and quieter pull-offs.
CHESAPEAKE BAY
This is a different kind of trip. Flat roads, small towns, and easy access to the water make it a good place to slow things down.
GW/JEFFERSON NAT. FORESTS
Once you’re in these forests, it opens up – gravel roads, elevation, and plenty of room to explore.
ASSATEAGUE ISLAND
Driving on the beach, camping near the water, and wild horses moving through the area. Not much else like it on the East Coast.
GETTYSBURG
Known for its Civil War history, but once you get outside of town, it’s all rolling farmland, quiet roads, and an easy place to spend a day driving.
NEW RIVER GORGE
A bit further out, but it feels bigger once you’re there. Deeper terrain, more elevation, and a landscape that’s worth the drive.
